The Lagos State Police Command has announced the release of upcoming Nigerian Musician, Anthony Uchechukwu, popularly known as “Suruche” (King of Madness). ayokinews.com reports
It should be recalled that “Suruche” was earlier arrested and paraded as a criminal suspect at the Lagos state police headquarters in Ikeja, on Wednesday 14th July, 2021.
Speaking on his arrest by men of the Nigerian police, “Suruche” noted that he was arrested after the police stopped the uber he boarded for a show at Lekki.
An excerpt from his words says, “They told me that I was being taken to meet a DPO. I just saw myself here this morning. I still don’t understand what’s happening.”
The announcement of his release was made public by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who stated that the suspect was released prior to proper background checks conducted on his personality.
“The King of Madness has been released; he was released after a proper background check on him. We discovered that he has a means of livelihood like many others. It was not only him, but all those that have a means of livelihood have been released.
“There was no special treatment for him, as everybody was treated equally. There is no way police will embark on a raid and certain individuals will not be picked, either erroneously or for not presenting a means of identification as of the time they are arrested.
“In his own case, he could not provide an ID card according to those who arrested him. The DCP SCIID, Panti, personally did the screening for those that were raided yesterday and some of them that have means of livelihood and have gone through background check were released, while others would be charged to court.
