According to the AFP, Russian tanks and other heavy military equipments crossed Ukraine’s border in various northern districts, as well as the Kremlin-annexed Crimean peninsula in the south.
Reports has it that one of Ukraine’s soldiers was killed in a shelling strike near the Crimean border, the first verified military fatality since Russia’s trespass.
In its eight-year struggle with Russian-backed separatists in the east, Ukraine has suffered a high number of casualties, yet there have been no fatalities along its southern border with Crimea for several years.
Following a series of emergency contacts with international leaders, including US President Joe Biden, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, called a meeting of top military officers, according to his office.

“The armed forces of Ukraine are waging heavy combat,” presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak said.
“We have losses,” he added, without giving details”.
“In several places, the Russian armed forces have been repelled.”
Russian forces managed to advance five kilometers deep along the northern border, according to Ukrainian sources, particularly targeting military infrastructures and silos.
