Residents in the Kuje neighborhood of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have reported hearing gunshots within the vicinity of the prison.
There are unsubstantiated reports of gunmen believed to be terrorists, storming and attacking the prison, although specifics of the situation are still vague.
There are also reports of explosions within the Kuje prison vicinity.
A source from the area who spoke on anonymity to TheCable said:
“There has been serious shooting from the prison area for over 30 minutes. A number of unknown men were seen running through the Government Secondary School premises from only God knows where.
“We don’t know who they are. There was a sound like collapsing zinc and before we knew it, some men were seen running through the back, down to the empty school land.”
This comes shortly after an attack was carried out on President Buhari’s convoy in Katsina state.
Two persons were reported dead as a result of the attack on the president’s convoy.
It was leanrt that President Muhammadu Buhari was not in the convoy as at the time of the incident.
