The broadcasting licenses of Silverbird TV, AIT, Raypower FM, and Rhythm FM, among others, have been revoked, according to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), which announced this on Friday.
This was made known in a statement issued by the Director-General of the NBC, Mallam Balarabe Shehu, who stated that the inability of the media outlets to renew their broadcast licenses, prompted the development.
He also instructed NBC state offices to coordinate with security organizations to guarantee that the stations’ operations would cease within the following 24 hours.
The statement claims that three months ago, the broadcast authority issued a list of stations whose licenses had not yet been renewed.

The commission said that despite the publication, “some licensees are yet to pay their outstanding debts, in contravention of the National Broadcasting Commission Act CAP N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, particularly section 10(a) of the third schedule of the Act.
“Therefore, after due consideration, NBC hereby announces the revocation of the licenses of the…stations and gives them 24 hours to shut down their operations.
“Our offices nationwide are hereby directed to collaborate with security agencies to ensure immediate compliance.”
