Armed bandits on Tuesday, launched an attack on Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance convoy in Katsina.
The president is scheduled to be in Daura, his hometown, for the weekend Sallah celebration.
A statement released on Tuesday by the presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, confirmed the injury of two persons in the incident.
He stated that the advance convoy was attacked while on route to Daura to be ready for the president’s arrival.
“The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah,” the statement reads.

“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
Deadly attacks by armed bandits and terrorists have increased in recent times despite the federal government’s claims of being on top of the situation.
