The Nigerian Federal Government has issued a new Code of Practice to all interactive Computer Service Platforms operating in Nigeria. ayokinews.com reports
In a statement released by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), President Buhari directed the development of a regulatory framework for all information technology practices in Nigeria in order to protect fundamental human rights of Nigerians and non-Nigerians living in the country, including guidelines for interacting on the digital ecosystem.
Social media companies such as Meta (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram), Twitter, and YouTube are to register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and erase “harmful” profiles from their platforms.

According to the Federal Government, the new code of practice is an initiative to simplify the connection between online platforms and Nigerians while also safeguarding consumers from dangerous and illegal content.
Input from key authorities such as the Nigerian Communications Commission, the National Broadcasting Commission, and other digital platforms were integrated into the proposed code of practice.
