Aisha Ahmad, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has allegedly been detained by the Department of State Security Service (DSS) in connection with an alleged illegal acquisition of shares in Titan Bank (Union Bank) and Polaris Bank.
Upon inquiry into the development, DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya told Channels Television that he was unable to confirm Ahmad’s detention or whether she has been invited for questioning.
Meanwhile, circulating rumors on social media says Aisha is also being questioned on how $300 million was obtained by Titan Bank to complete the acquisition of Union Bank in 2022.
Afunaya, who commented on the situation, said that any inquiry might result in the invitation of individuals to be questioned, and that such invitations are being acted upon in accordance with the law.
This comes after Godwin Emefiele, Ahmad’s former boss at the CBN, was taken into custody by the secret agency around two months ago. He has since been in the DSS custody.
