With less than two months to the general elections, Nigerians have been urged not to vote for candidates based on their religious affiliation, with the argument that God has no business with political thieves.
Socio-political activist Deji Adeyanju made the warning while pointing out that God has no light on Nigeria’s corrupt politicians.
Adeyanju was criticizing Abdulmutallab Mohammed Auwal, a Northern Islamic preacher, for advising Muslims to view the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its Muslim/Muslim ticket as a call to Jihad.
Auwal stated that the Tinubu/Shettima Muslim/Muslim ticket had defined the supremacy of Islam during a special prayer session organized by Muslim clerics in Kano State for the success of Bola Tinubu’s campaign.
Adeyanju responded by saying that the cleric’s statement was comparable to pastors promoting a certain candidate as God’s will.
Speaking with DAILY POST, Adeyanju said;
“Nigerians must reject the urge to vote for people along religious and ethnic lines.
“I condemn the remarks of the Islamic cleric in Kano calling on Muslims to vote for Tinubu/Shettima by referring to their ticket as a jihad.
“His remarks are not different from that of pastors endorsing a candidate and saying he is God’s will for Nigeria. God has no business with Nigerian thieving politicians.”
