Adamu Garba, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has claimed that the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next President will put an end to Olusegun Obasanjo’s dictatorial rule over Nigeria.
Garba made this known on Monday, via his verified Twitter account.
Recall that Obasanjo had, in a message to Nigerians on the first day of the year, backed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, among other contenders for the 2023 election, noting his track record of success and aptitude.
The former president also stated that Obi has advantages over other front-runner contenders due to his age and physical and mental makeup.
However, this didn’t go down well with Garba, who reacted to Obasanjo’s support of Obi over his principal, claiming that the latter was fervently envious of Tinubu.
Meanwhile, in response to several demands from Twitter users for clarification on his assertion that Obasanjo envied Tinubu, Garba claimed that, in contrast to Obasanjo, his principal fought hard for democracy and earned his position.
Obasanjo, according to him, was imposed on Nigerians as president.
He wrote, “Some asked why would Pres. Obasanjo be (sic) envious of Tinubu. Listen, Tinubu worked for 30 years to build the network, people, systems & institutions of democracy that brought him to where he is today. Meanwhile, Obasanjo was foist (sic) on Nigerians as President in 1999. Now you see why?
“While Tinubu worked hard for democracy & earned his position through time. Obasanjo’s ticket for Presidency in 1999 was a parlour-level compensation.
“When Tinubu is elected President later in February, his democratic victory will bury the autocratic imposition of Obasanjo on Nigeria.”
