2023: Fresh trouble for Peter Obi as LP faction elects Ezenwafor as presidential candidate

The Labour Party (LP) is in disarray after Jude Ezenwafor, a former chairman of LP in Anambra State, was proclaimed the winner of a presidential primary organized by a faction of the party. ayokinews.com reports

The affirmation of Ezenwafor’s candidacy took place on Wednesday, in Abuja.

NAN quoted Ezenwafor as saying, “I am on a rescue mission to free Nigeria from social, economic and political crises currently bedevilling it.

“Labour Party will win the general election. Our party is going to take over Nigeria and bring back the glory Nigeria needs.

“I have been in the corridors of government for the past 20 years. We are here on a rescue mission.”

This comes just days after Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was elected as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in a party primary organized by the Julius Abure-led faction.

Prior to Obi’s primary victory, Calistus Okafor, the chairman of another faction of the party, sued the Abure-led group in an Abuja Federal High Court, claiming the election was illegal.

The presiding judge, Inyang Ekwo, issued an order on May 30, ordering the Labour Party and some of its officers to be served with a new lawsuit challenging the party’s leadership.

The case was further adjourned to June 30 for additional consideration.

All political parties have until June 9 to conclude their primaries, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
