Nigeria Minister of Defense, Bashir Magashi, has said that the rising insecurity in the country is the main reason for the deployment of the military in internal security operations. ayokinews.com reports
Magashi, however, lauded the timely efforts of the military especially the Nigerian Airforce (NAF), for focusing on doctrinal developments to address the security challenges posing threats to the country.
The Defense Minister made this known while speaking at the graduation ceremony of 13 officers of the Airforce War College Course 7/2021, held at Nigeria Airforce officers mess, Makurdi.
Magashi was represented at the event by the Director of Military Affairs, Federal Ministry of Defence, Sunday Musa.
He highlighted terrorism, kidnapping, insurgency, as well as ethno-religious crisis, to be the major challenges testing the nation’s democracy.

The minister said that the nature of warfare posing new challenges to the security agencies requires innovation and contemporary ways to tackle the challenges.
“Our country is currently experiencing different forms of security challenges, these include terrorism, insurgency, armed banditry and kidnapping. Similarly, our democracy is also being tested by ethno- religion crises as well as incidents of farmer/herders conflicts.
“These challenges have had grace consequences on human/ material resources of the nation, hence, the inevitable intervention and involvement of the military in internal security operation across the country,” Magashi stated.
