Reigning racing champion, Tobi Amusan, has expressed her utmost joy after qualifying for the women’s 100 metres hurdles semi-finals on Tuesday in Budapest.
Amusan, 26, whose record currently reads 12.12, was slow out of the blocks before racing to a time of 12.48 seconds, third fastest on the night.
Speaking on her achievement so far, the athlete said, “I am just thankful I am here in Budapest and able to race, using my talent,” she said after the race.
“It has not been the best, but I am here. I tried to stay as relaxed as possible (through the uncertainty) and do what my coach tells me. So, here I am.”
Tobi Amusan’s appearance at the competition comes as a surprise to many after her suspension was lifted just two days to the Kickstart of the World Athletics Championships.
However, Amusan could still face appeal that could reinstate the ban on her career performance.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) had suspended Tobi Amusan in July after three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.
