Nyeson Wike, the Governor of Rivers state, has declared his candidacy to run for president under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023. ayokinews.com reports
Wike made his ambition known when he visited Benue state to meet with the state’s party (PDP) stakeholders. He expressed his confidence in PDP taking back power in 2023, while noting that his decision to run is solely to uproot the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) from power.
He also shaded party members whom according to him, abandoned the PDP in the run up to 2015 general election, but now want to contest for president under the party’s umbrella.
“If you’re running election, power isn’t given for free; it is taken. I’ve come out and I’m going to take this power from APC back to PDP by the grace of God,” he said.
“God has given us what it takes. That’s why God is making APC to make mistake everyday and that is how you know that God is with you,” he added.
Wike made it known that he has what it takes to lead a diverse country like Nigeria and promised to be closer to the people if elected as president.
