The start of Ukraine long-promised southern counter-offensive prompted a statement from the British military on Tuesday saying it was unclear how far Ukrainian troops had advanced into Russian-held territory.
“Several brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces increased the weight of artillery fires in front line sectors across southern Ukraine,’’ the British Defense Ministry said in its intelligence update on the war.
“Ukraine long-range precision strikes continue to disrupt Russian resupply (lines),’’ which London described as “fragile.”
But it cautioned that it was “not yet possible to confirm the extent of Ukrainian advances.”
Approximately six months after Russia invaded Ukraine, the military leadership in Kiev said on Monday that it has started operations to reclaim several territories in the south.

The Ukrainian military reported many breaches in the Russians’ outermost line of defense in the Kherson region.
In his nightly speech on Monday, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky merely made passing mention of the offensive, claiming that providing more information would be inappropriate.
“But the occupiers should know: we will oust them to the border. To our border, the line of which has not changed. The invaders know it well.”
He further urged the Russian armed forces in Ukraine territory to leave and return home.
