Nigeria will be stepping up in supplying gas to the European Union as the war between Russia and Ukraine lingers.
This was made known by the ECOWAS and the EU Delegation to Nigeria, during the weekend.
Matthew Baldwin, the Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Department for Energy, briefed journalists in Abuja.
Baldwin is in Nigeria to meet with representatives of the government and the commercial sector, including significant participants in the energy industry.

He acknowledged that Europe is in a difficult situation as a result of the war, the instability of its gas market, and the potential of supply disruption.
“We have launched the energy platform task force and the primary goal is to reach out to our reliable partners such as Nigeria to replace the gas from Russia”, he said.
The EU had warned that a total cutoff of Russia’s gas supplies was imminent and recommended member nations to cut their gas usage by 15%.
