The agreement between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Ghanian government was reached on Thursday 5th August, 2021.
The MOU signed between the two countries is restricted to diplomatic and other official passport holders who have a background record with the public and state security apparatus. The agreement also contains a mutual exemption of entry visa requirements in respect of diplomatic, service or special, and ordinary passport holders.

Speaking on the newly signed agreement with the UAE, Chairman of Ghana’s parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, Bryan Acheampong, noted that the Ghanian authorities are willing to deepen its relationship ties with the UAE after many years of fruitful relationship.
“The agreement, which constitutes a comprehensive framework on visa regimes for both countries accordingly made provisions to cover the diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports for nationals of both countries.”
“The Agreement did not impose obligations on the two parties to admit people who are considered to be of questionable character into their territories, neither did it impose any financial obligation on the two parties while neither country will obtain direct financial gains from their implementation,” Mr. Acheampong added.
