Nigeria Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has blamed smuggling for the rising cost of rice in the country. ayokinews.com reports
While featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Zainab said that smuggling is a major challenge affecting the Nigerian economy and hurting the hardworking citizens.
The minister said: “Unfortunately there is a lot of distortion and the distortion is arising from smuggling of goods into the country.

“We have unpatriotic Nigerians that will bring rice that is poor quality, some of it not even fit for human consumption and come and dump it in the market.”
Zainab, further reiterated the federal government’s commitment to fighting smuggling in all its forms, while noting that an operational team which combines of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Police and the Department of Security Services (DSS), have been put in place to combat the menace.
