Reality TV star, Gifty Powers, has lashed out at Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, Rema, following the cancelation of his music concert in Ethiopia.
Recall that Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa released a statement announcing the cancelation of Rema’s show in Ethiopia, which was earlier slated for September 9.
The decision to cancel Rema’s show comes amidst controversy surrounding his ‘burning church’ necklace, which many Ethiopians consider to be an affront to the Orthodox church.
Rema wears a necklace that features the image of a burning church and inverted crosses. He also uses the same image as a backdrop for his album cover and performance
The wearing and public display of the necklace by Rema was not well received by many Ethiopians who accused the singer of “devil worshipping”.
Also condemning the singer was the Ethiopian Orthodox church which affirmed strong disapproval of the symbol.
Following the incident, former Big Brother Naija housemate, Gifty Powers, made a public accusation against Rema, claiming that his music and art promotes satanism.
Gifty said that having done her own investigation, she discovered that Rema was promoting satanic themes in his works.
Taking to her official Instagram page, she wrote:
“To Rema, shame on you. I couldn’t believe it until researched it myself and found out REMA wore a necklace with a burned church turned upside down, like
