British Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by Buckingham palace on Sunday. ayokinews.com reports
According to a royal statement cited by Sky News and various other publications, Queen Elizabeth, 95, is experiencing mild-like symptoms but she’s expected to undertake her responsibilities at Windsor this week.
The Queen will continue to get medical treatment and follow protocols, says Harper’s Bazaar royal editor Omid Scobie, a known source of royal news.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom (UK), released a statement via his official Twitter handle, addressing the news.
“I’m sure I speak for everyone in wishing Her Majesty The Queen a swift recovery from Covid and a rapid return to vibrant good health,” PM Johnson wrote.
Several cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed at Windsor Castle, where the Queen had stayed for the most of the pandemic, according to Daily Mail royal editor, Rebecca English.
In January 2021, the Queen took her first dosage of vaccine and has encouraged other people to do the same. No formal confirmation of further dosage has been made.
Also in 2021, fear arose concerning the Queen’s health when she was admitted to hospital overnight for “preliminary medical examinations.”
Though several sources claimed it had nothing to do with COVID-19, but the exact cause was never revealed.
The Queen’s diagnosis came a week after Prince Charles, her eldest son and heir apparent, confirmed he had been infected with the virus.
On February 8, Charles met the Queen at Windsor Castle, after which he was diagnosed with the virus on February 10. The Duchess of Cornwall, Charles’s wife, was also discovered to have been infected with the virus on February 14.
