Nigerians have received assurance from the presidency that the events of June 12, 1993, won’t reoccur again.
Garba Shehu, a spokesperson for President Muhammadu Buhari, said that the presidential election allegedly marred with irregularities will not be annulled.
Shehu advised candidates and political parties who were dissatisfied with the election’s results to file a lawsuit.
He spoke in a statement titled “At the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries, LDCs, disclosed President Buhari drummed up support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidency.”
The statement reads partly: “Before the trip, he was faced with orchestrated attempts to poison public opinion against national institutions, particularly the presidential election and its conduct by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as an institution, against which vile and unsubstantiated allegations were hurled.
“The wishful thinkers appeared to assume that the June 12, 1993, election crisis, the worst ever since the civil war, could be recreated.”
The results of the election on February 25, have been criticized by certain contenders for the presidency.
Both Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are dissatisfied with the results of the presidential election.
Although, asserting they both won the election, Atiku and Obi said there were anomalies in the presidential election.
The election results are currently being contested by both candidates in court.
