Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, the Nigerian Army’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has cautioned troops not to get lured into politicking as political activities ramp up ahead of the 2023 general elections. ayokinews.com reports
On Tuesday, Lt Gen. Yahaya, delivered the charge to troops in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, during an operational visit of two brigade Areas of Responsibility (AOR).
The COAS encouraged soldiers to be focused in the performance of current internal security operations across the country, according to a statement signed by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations.
He underlined that troops’ job during elections is to help the Nigeria Police Force, which is the primary agency in the electoral security architecture.

The army chief urged the troops to be steadfast in defending the country’s territorial integrity and citizens.
He further charged the troops to remain devoted to vigilantly defending national economic assets by preventing criminals and economic saboteurs from destroying the nation’s oil and gas sector.
