The Nigerian Army officer, Major CL Datong, who was abducted during the recent bandit attack on the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, has finally regained his freedom. ayokinews.com reports
Armed bandits had earlier on August 24, stormed the Nigerian Defense Academy in Kaduna, an attack which led to the death of some army officers and also the abduction of one army Major CL Datong.
The abducted major who had earlier been rumored to have been dead was finally rescued from his abductors on Friday 18.
Report of Major CL Datong was made public by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Ezindu Idimah.
Colonel Idimah noted that the rescue operation of the army Major led to the destruction of several bandit camps along Afaka-Birnin Gwari areas of Kaduna state, while noting that scores of armed bandits were killed.
He stated that the rescue operation was carried out in conjunction with other relevant security agencies who combed the Afaka areas following the Chief of Army Staff directive.

“The troops arrived at a camp suspected to be the location where Maj CL Datong was being held. At the camp, the troops exchanged fire with the bandits and overwhelmed them with superior fire.
“In the process, the gallant troops were able to rescue the abducted officer. However, the officer sustained a minor injury but has been treated in a medical facility and handed over to NDA for further action,” he said.
Colonel Idimah further praised and commended the good and timely efforts of the NAF, DSS, Nigerian Police and other patriotic Nigerians who worked towards the release of the Army Major.
