A 19-year-old Ukrainian Biathlete, Yevhen Maylshev, was slain in battle against invading Russian soldiers, sports organizations said Wednesday. ayokinews.com reports
In a joint statement, the Athletes of Ukraine and Global Athlete stated that Yevhen Maylshev, was slain on Tuesday after taking up arms to protect his motherland from Russian invasion.
Maylshev was a member of the Ukrainian national team as well as the Kharkiv junior squad until retiring in 2020, according to the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation.
“How many more lives need to be lost before sports implements meaningful sanctions?” the Athletes of Ukraine and Global Athlete said in their statement.

The organizations condemned the International Paralympic Committee’s decision to let Russian and Belarussian competitors to compete under a neutral flag, claiming that the sanction was insufficient.
“We express our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. Eternal memory,” the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation said.
Maylshev was among the many Ukrainian sportsmen, who have joined the heroic struggle to save/guide their motherland from Russian aggression.
