On Saturday June 11, 2022, a patient with the same virus that caused Justin Bieber’s facial paralysis, said she was pained to see what the Canadian pop singer was going through but glad that he is raising global awareness about the sickness.
“I’ve watched his video and I’m not going to lie, I shed a couple of tears. I never thought that I would relate to someone so much that I didn’t know,” Nicoya Rescorla told Reuters.
Bieber, 28, said on Friday, that he had been afflicted with a virus that has paralyzed half of his face and caused him to cancel several forthcoming shows.
He claimed in an Instagram video that he had developed Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which impacted nerves in his ear and face and caused his right eye to stop blinking, according to Reuters.
Rescorla claimed she was diagnosed with the condition 20 months ago, around the time her 11-week-old infant was sent to the hospital with a serious infection and her grandpa, whom she was caring for, was forced to enter a nursing facility.
“I think personally for me stress was a huge factor, a huge factor,” said Rescorla, who is also 28 and has three children.

“It’s hard to think of someone else going through something that you’re going through. Obviously, Justin Bieber … he’s a huge celebrity, and I also felt so proud that he was spreading awareness of Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
“It was heartwarming that he was spreading awareness, but also heartbreaking that he was going through it.”
Speaking about the impact of the sickness on her daily life, Rescorla stated that she can no longer drive or leave the house on her own due to the illness. She claims she now drink via a straw and suffers from vertigo.
“I went from being so independent, fiercely independent, to having my husband care for me because I haven’t been able to do it for myself,” she said.
