The Nigerian Senate has today Wednesday 8th July, 2021, began the screening process of the National Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). ayokinews.com reports.
The National Commissioners nominees which includes an aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, arrived the National Assembly as she was being ushered into the office of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Kabri Gaya.
The appointment of Mrs. Lauretta Onochie, who happens to be a staunch loyalist of President Muhammadu Buhari, has sparked a wide outrage following her political affiliation to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Also reacting to Mrs. Onochie’s INEC appointment is the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who claimed that her appointment in affiliation to the ruling APC makes her until for the position.
Other nominees include, Professor Muhammad Sani Kallah (Katsina), Prof. Kunle Cornelius Ajayi (Ekiti), Saidu Babura Ahmad (Jigawa), Professor Sani Muhammad Adam (North-Central) and Dr. Baba Bila (North East).
