The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally succumbed to Nigerian’s appeal by extending the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which was earlier scheduled to close by June ending.
The present continuous voter registration (CVR) process had been scheduled to finish at the end of June 2022, but INEC has ultimately decided to prolong it.
This was made known by Hon. Aishatu Jibril Dukku, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, while updating other lawmakers on the committee’s efforts to guarantee the execution of a House resolution passed last week.
“The Committee held a meeting with INEC yesterday (Tuesday) and they agreed to extend the CVR, all our resolutions were approved,” Aishatu told members of the House during plenary on Wednesday.

Last Wednesday, the House of Representatives recommended INEC to extend the deadline for the continuous voter registration by an additional 60 days starting from June 30, 2022, to allow more Nigerians to register for their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
The House urged the Commission to reach the goal by deploying more workers and registration equipments across the nation.
Prior to the 2023 general elections, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, had observed in a motion that the current CVR by INEC was due to conclude on June 30, thus stressing the need for an extension.
