Nigerian female engineer, Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, popularly known as ‘Funmi Ayinke’, was on Wednesday July 6, 2022, appointed as an Ambassador of the Peace Corps of Nigeria.
Engr. Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), is an entrepreneur and MD/CEO of FunmiAyinke Nigeria Ltd, a firm concentrated on the cores of engineering.
She is best known for positioning her business outfits as platforms to reach out to the needy. This can be attested to by the quantum of her philanthropic and humanitarian activities that dot every nook and cranny of Nigeria.
The Peace Corps of Nigeria came into effect following a 2015 United Nations (UN) resolution on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which was adopted by a plenary of over 140 Heads of States and Governments and the diplomatic corps representatives of the UN permanent mission.
The UN’s process of horse trading and complex negotiations led to the birth of a long list of 169 development targets and 17 development goals, which sums up to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All of these targets all center on ‘PEACE’, which is the UN’s main calling.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ambassador with the acronym (SDG-AMB), is an initiative of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) and has been registered by the Nigerian Copyrights Commission (NCC) as PCN’s intellectual property.
