Information gotten from Voice of America (VOA) had Sheikh Gumi’s spokesman, Tukur Mamu, state that the Islamic cleric never in any way during the interview accused the Nigerian military of abetting operations of armed bandits.

He was quoted as saying that the people and “even the soldiers have been saying that there could be some bad eggs amongst them” and that Sheikh Gumi never accused the Nigerian Army.
