The police in Sokoto state, have identified one of the main suspects in Deborah Samuel’s murder as a foreign interloper from the neighboring Niger Republic. ayokinews.com reports
Despite being caught on tape confessing his participation in the lynching and burning of Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, authorities said the suspect could not be identified in the city.
“We started looking for him immediately we saw his video on social media because he is fundamental to our investigation,” a police source told Peoples Gazette.
“We are now learning that he is not even a Nigerian but only came in illegally from Niger Republic to cause chaos in our country,” he added.
Although many police officers believe the culprit is a Nigerian who stayed within the country’s borders, the official said Interpol may be called in to assist in the arrest.

“Some officers are saying he is a Nigerian and we need additional time to find him. We have no facial recognition database, but we are following all available intelligence on the matter.”
Two suspects have already been arrested in connection with the murder, which has gripped the country for the third day.
