The Nigerian Senate has on Tuesday 13th July, 2021, bowed to the heavy criticisms of Nigerians and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as it fails to confirm Mrs. Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). ayokinews.com reports
The Senate made it known that the refusal to confirm Mrs. Lauretta Onochie, was based on the Federal Character Principle as Mrs. Onochie who hails from Delta, a state which already has May Agbamuche, as Chairman, Legal Services, INEC.
The Nigerian Senate resolution was followed by the consideration of the Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC) led Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
