Madagascar Prosecutor General’s office has announced that it foiled an assassination attempt on President Andry Rajoelina, while stating that several foreign and Malagasy suspects have been arrested in conjunction to the plot. ayokinews.com reports
In relation to the foiled assassination attempt, two (2) French Nationals were part of those arrested by the Madagascar security operatives “as part of an investigation for undermining state security”.
According to a statement issued by Prosecutor Berthine Razafiarivony, it was also revealed that “Several foreign and Madagascar nationals were arrested on Tuesday July 20, as part of an investigation into an attack on state security”.
“At this stage of the investigation, which is ongoing, the prosecutor-general’s office assures we will shed light in on this case,” Berthine said.
This makes it the second assassination attempt foiled in Madagascar following the attempt on the President’s right hand man, General Richard Ravalomanana, during the June 26th, 2021, Independence Day celebration.
