The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has made known its interest in learning more about the deadly shooting of Bolanle Raheem, a lawyer from Lagos.
Bolanle was shot on Christmas Day, by a policeman working for the Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah, Lagos.
Commenting on the ugly incident, Habeeb Lawal, the NBA’s press secretary, denounced the dastard act, saying it signaled a return of the police to their violent past.
He cautioned the security agency and others not to overlook the circumstances that gave rise to the EndSARS demonstration, which shocked the country.
Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau (SAN), the NBA President, is keeping an eye on the issue, according to Lawal, and has been in contact with relevant parties.
He pointed out that the NBA had taken the initiative to learn the truth about the brutal death of one of its own.
The NBA stated that it had alerted the police of its intention to file a complaint in the case with Raheem’s family.
A team has been assembled with the goal of ensuring a prompt but comprehensive inquiry into the alleged crime, the NBA added.
“The NBA is disturbed that the police seems to be back to the dark days of police brutality, and admonishes that the lessons from the #EndSARS protest should not be lost on any individual or authority”, Lawal added.
The statement prayed for Bolanle Raheem’s soul to rest in peace and advised members and Nigerians to maintain their composure while the probe gets underway.
