The Lagos State Government has said that it’s working on a number of projects in Badagry, in order to open the ancient town to the outside world and attract investors. ayokinews.com reports
Mr. Solomon Bonu, the Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture to Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated this during an on-the-spot inspection of current and finished projects on Monday in Badagry.
“When all these projects are completed in Badagry, they will bring about more development and make the ancient town the future of Lagos,’’ Bonu said.
He stated that he was doing an on-the-spot assessment of the projects in order to prepare them for inauguration ahead of the governor’s next visit to the ancient town.
According to him, the purpose for his visitation to the town was to inform the public about what the government is doing in their various communities.
The projects include road development in Aradagun, Ilado, and Imeke, as well as the construction of a block of 18 classrooms at the State High School, Ibereko. (NAN)
Other projects include the building of the Badagry Slave Market Museum at Vrekete, the Lagos Jetty Project, the construction of a structure at Agia Tree, the construction of a five-star hotel along ASCON road, and also the construction of Topo, Idale Badagry Market road.
Bonu said the government has finished the first section of the road from Iworo to Ajido at the Aradagun Ilado Imeke road construction site.
When the current construction is finished, he claims it will service roughly eight settlements in Badagry.
He further urged residents of Ajagamibo in Aradagun to support and cooperate with the construction workers in completing their task.
Mr. Ibrahim Lasisi, the road project’s supervisor, forecasted that the work would be completed in March.
Bonus also praised the Federal Government for the continued development of the Lagos Badagry Expressway, stating that contractors are working on the project at all hours of the day and night.
At the construction site of the block of 18 classrooms at State High School, Ibereko, the project supervisor said the construction would be completed by March 2022.
The school project’s supervisor, Mr. Joseph Avoseh, added that the library, restrooms, science lab, and equipments will be included in the projects.

According to Bonu, the governor saw the hardships faced by youngsters in the neighborhood who had to trek great distances to school and resolved to construct classrooms in their midst.
He claimed that the projects will allow kids to receive instruction in a more favorable setting.
Bonu said that the governor completed the Badagry Slave Market Museum, which had been abandoned by the previous government, because of the current administration’s love for tourism as part of its objective.
He added that after the inauguration, the Slave Market Museum, will enable people to learn about the pains their grandfathers went through during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade era.
Bonu announced five projects to be created inside the Badagry riverine area to improve water transportation and tourism at the newly completed Badagry Jetty in Marina.
He commented on the continued construction of the edifice at the Agia Tree in Badagry, saying that the initiative will allow Christians to worship yearly at the Agia Tree rather than journeying to Jerusalem, as Christianity in Nigeria, was first preached under the Agia Tree in 1842.
Bonu also noted that when the ongoing five-star hotel along ASCON road in Badagry is done, it will provide adequate accommodation for visitors to the city.
The monitoring effort, according to him, was designed to show Badagry locals that the current administration is devoted to the area’s development and urbanization.
He further advised Badagry’s youths to quit squandering the city’s potential by utilizing social media to their advantage.
