Appeal Court Orders ASUU To Resume Work Immediately

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been ordered to return to work right away by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

This decision was made by the appeal court in response to a motion filed by ASUU, asking for permission to appeal the National Industrial Court’s (NIC) request that the professors on strike return to work.

While emphasizing that ASUU must comply with the lower Court’s decision beginning today, October 7, the Court also allowed ASUU limited permission to challenge the Industrial Court’s ruling.

The 3-man panel, presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, ruled that ASUU must provide proof that its members had started working again right away in order to file its notice of appeal within seven days.

The panel determined that the appeal would be ineligible before the Court of Appeal if it did not follow the order.
