Popular Nollywood Yoruba actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, (aka) ‘Baba Ijesha’ is to stand trial before an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Thursday 24 June, 2021, over the case of sexual assault leveled against him. ayokinews.com reports
Baba Ijesha has been in police custody since 22nd April, 2021, and is now expected to stand trial before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo on the 24th of June, 2021.
Baba Ijesha was arrested prior to the charges leveled against him which includes; charges of indecent treatment of a child, defilement of a child, sexual assault by penetration, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault but pleaded not guilty when trialed before a Yaba Magistrates Court on the 16th June, 2021, after which he was ordered to remanded in police custody pending the final trial by Magistrate P.E Nwaka.
Magistrate P.E Nwaka ruled as thus; “I have carefully considered the application of the counsel to the defendant seeking bail for the defendant and the opposition by the counsel from the DPP.
“Since there are indications that the matter is before the high court and the defendant will appear before the court, no bail can be given.
“The defendant must be accorded full medical attention by the authorities pending his arraignment at the High Court.” (NAN)
