The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has issued an alert, warning that cholera can kill within hours if it isn’t properly treated.
Cholera, which is a diarrhoeal illness, is endemic in Nigeria and is estimated to have claimed the lives of at least 3,604 persons in 2021.
In a message posted on the agency’s Facebook page, NCDC said: “With an incubation period of at least 2 hours, #cholera can kill within hours if untreated.
“It is easily transmitted in areas with poor sanitation hygiene practices & lack of clean water. Reporting suspected cases early increases the chances of survival,” the health monitoring agency said.
