American actor Will Smith has apologized to Chris Rock for his behavior at the Oscars earlier this year in a five-minute video posted to his YouTube channel.
Smith had slapped Chris Rock on stage for making a joke about his wife, which he deemed disrespectful.
In the video which has now gone viral, Smith said that he had tried to get in touch with Rock but the later wasn’t ready to talk to him.
“My behavior was unacceptable and I am here whenever you feel that you are ready to talk,” Smith said.
The Oscar winner said that an interview granted by Rock’s mother, was one of the maim driving forces behind his public apologies.

Will Smith added that he was not thinking and did not think “about how many people I hurt in that moment”. He then tendered a direct apology to Rock’s mother and also Rock’s family.
“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he said.
Smith also said that his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who was the target of Rock’s joke, had no influence on his choice to climb the stage and attack Rock.
The video closed with Smith apologizing to people who had looked up to him before the event, acknowledging that he must have let them down out of anger.
