Wema Bank Plc, on Wednesday, launched its ALAT Hackaholics 4.0, in an effort to unite 10,000 young innovators from across Nigeria and Africa.
According to the bank, the first three winners would each get N3 million, N2.5 million, and N1.5 million, with the best women-led techpreneur receiving an additional N1 million.
The bank’s Executive Director of Digital Services, Tunde Mabawonku, said that the fourth edition would be centered on extending finance beyond technology.
Mabawonku stated that just as the bank is innovating, it is also assisting people and organizations to innovate in order to improve the nation while announcing the opening of submissions for Hackaholics 4.0, a tech talent finding and nurturing programme among students in Lagos.
He stated that entries with creative solutions to address female violence, promote entertainment, and other issues will be sought for at this year’s Hackaholics, which is focused on developing finance outside of technology.
According to him, the bank would engage 10,000 tech entrepreneurs through the initiative, generate 5000 solutions, establish six pitch centers, and experience nearly one million foot falls over the campaign.
“Just as we redefined experiential banking with ALAT, Hackaholics is at the heart of our innovative project for startups. We are poised to host the largest campus hackathon this year.”
Hackaholics 4.0, which has partnerships with companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Endeavour Africa, Meta, Paystack among others, is anticipated to gather participants from all around the world, especially from Nigeria, with touchpoints at Babcock University, Lagos State University, Abia State University, University of Lagos, the Federal University of Technology in Akure, and the University of Benin.
