The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has come under fire from a top APC chieftain over the hardship the country’s citizens have experienced as a result of the recent cashless policy. The official also revealed what should be inscribed on Emefiele’s gravestone after his passing.
The CBN had earlier redesigned the N200, N500, and N1000 notes as part of its cashless policy program, which began on February 10.
The unavailability of the newly redesigned notes’ created turmoil throughout the country, thereby prompting the Supreme Court to rule that the old notes remain legal tender.
However, the CBN gave in to pressure on Monday and approved the latest Supreme Court decision for the old notes to be reissued.
Reacting to the development, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Aviation Minister, said for inflicting pains on common Nigerians via the policy, Emefile’s gravestone should carry the inscription, “Here lies Godwin the fool who thought that he would live forever, who thought that power lay in the hands of mere mortals and who thought that money was greater than God. May he burn in hell forever”.
Fani-Kayode claimed that party loyalists who battled for the reuse of the old naira notes have successfully booted the CBN governor under the bus.
“Godwin has finally been thrown under the bus. He deserves the worst. A psychotic & vicious sociopath, he is undoubtedly the most sadistic soul that has ever been given a position of power in our nation’s history.
“His cruelty surpasses all others & his wickedness has no limitations”, he added.
