Samuel Ortom, the Governor of the Benue state, has asked the Nigerian Federal Government to conduct the 2023 general election in a fair and transparent way.
This was said by the governor on Wednesday, when he was in Washington, US, for the International Republican Institute (IRI).
According to Ortom, there are indications that the federal government is interfering with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) operations.
Adding, he said that the opposition parties are concerned that the incumbent party would find excuses to maintain its hold on power.

“The fact that the umpire appears to shift the goalpost to accommodate the sloppiness of the ruling party in observing its ostensible firm timetable deadlines calls for concern,” Nathaniel Ikyur, chief press secretary to the governor, quoted his principal as saying.
Ikyur said that Governor Ortom referred to the All Progressives Congress (APC) same-religion ticket as “desperate and insensitive.”
“It has become clear that the Buhari government is not working in the interest of Nigeria and her citizens and thereby setting the stage for chaos in 2023, which will have global consequences,” he said.
