Barack Obama, a former President of the United States, stated on March 13, that he had contacted the COVID-19 virus. ayokinews.com reports
The former president is said to be suffering from mild symptoms while his wife, Michelle, tested negative for the ailment.
“I just tested positive for COVID. I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise. Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative. It’s a reminder to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, even as cases go down,” he tweeted.
Obama, 60, had just recently returned to Washington, D.C. after spending the winter holiday in Hawaii.
Obama becomes the second US President to test positive to COVID-19 following former President Donald Trump’s announcement in October 2020 that he tested positive for the virus, months before vaccinations were widely accessible in the US.
Throughout the epidemic, Obama has been a strong advocate of public health measures. He canceled his 60th birthday celebration on Martha’s Vineyard last August due to worries about the Delta variant at the time.
