The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disqualified Nigerians undet the age of 18 from registering and owning Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) in the country. ayokinews.com reports
The new development was container in a draft copy issued and published on the NCC official website titled, ‘Modified Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations’.
The NCC further directed the telecom subscribers to only include and recognize Nigerians above the age of 18.
” ‘Subscriber’ means a person not below the age of 18 years who subscribes to communications services by purchasing a subscription medium or entering into a subscription contract with a licensee,” the directive stated.

The Licensee refers to ‘a provider of communications services that utilises a subscription medium within the Federal Republic of Nigeria’.
The new NCC regulation was implemented under the powers conferred upon the commission in section 70 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
