The Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said that the southern part of Nigeria would not support any political party that fields a Northern candidate ahead of the 2023 poll. ayokinews.com reports
Speaking during an interview with Channels TV on Friday, Akeredolu stated that in 2 two separate meetings, the Southern Governors Forum had concluded that the next presidency must be zoned to the region.
Speaking on the resolution, he noted that the Southern Governors Forum had unanimously agreed that the 2023 presidency be zoned to the region for the sake of justice, fairness and equity.
Akeredolu insisted that after the Presidency of President Muhammadu Buhari, the next President of the region must come from the south while noting that the concept of candidate competence cannot override the aspect of zoning.
He stated that both the Northern and Southern region of Nigeria has competent people who can rule and direct the affairs of the country well.
“There are about three political parties that are in the Southern Governors’ Forum, we have APGA, PDP and APC. All of us are unanimous in our position that the next president of this country must come from the south,” Governor Akeredolu said.
