The Nigeria government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the military coup d’état which took place in Guinea on Sunday 6th September, 2021. ayokinews.com reports
The position of the Nigerian government was made known in a statement released by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Esther Sunsuwa on Sunday.
The Nigerian government noted that the coup which saw to the ousting of President Alpha Conde from office violates the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
The statement by the Nigerian government was released immediately after the coup led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, took place in in the Guinean capital of Conakry.

The statement reads;
“The Nigerian government is saddened by the apparent coup d’etat that has taken place in the Republic of Guinea today, in clear violation of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
“The Government of Nigeria strongly condemns and rejects any unconstitutional change of government and therefore calls on those behind this coup to restore constitutional order without delay and protect all lives and property.”
The incumbent President of Guinea, President Alpha Conde, who is currently serving his third term in office, is currently in detention after being arrested by the military.
