The Nigerian Senate Committee on Basic Education has revealed that it is currently working towards establishing a law which would stop the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from admitting student below the age of 18. ayokinews.com reports
This was made public by the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Basic Education, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, during the committees visit to JAMB on Monday 12th July, 2021.
Senator Eyekenyi noted that age has a lot to do with the learning abilities of every student and that things pertaining to education shouldn’t be taken for granted particularly in higher institutions.
Senator Eyekenyi described JAMB as bridge between the secondary and the tertiary institution of the country and that the agency is an important force to be reckon with in the country’s educational system.
“If the products from the secondary schools are not properly catered for to be assessed before turning them into the university definitely you will have a problem,” Sen. Eyekenyi stated.
