A total of 130 hospitals and pharmacies run by fake medical doctors have been discovered by a committee established by Alhaji Tijjani Matata, the Chairman of the Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The committee claims that during its inquiry it uncovered that one of the fake medical doctors has a secondary school diploma and another was an electrician who ran an 8-bed hospital and claimed to treat various ailments there.
The committee’s chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Karafe, expressed regret that one of the forgers had given a woman who had come to his clinic for treatment of malaria HIV-positive blood.
He added that an inquiry was done to determine the issue after receiving a number of complaints from people over the growth of private hospitals and pharmacies in their respective areas.
He expressed regret that the committee had even discovered an electrical engineer running a private hospital, caring for patients, writing prescriptions, giving drips, giving blood, and even attending to expectant mothers.
“We even found one who is a traditional medicine vendor, but he admitted cholera patients. We had to evacuate them to the hospital for proper treatment. Most of them don’t even have basic knowledge about health,” he stressed.
The chairman said that one of the fake medical doctors who claimed to be a nurse was found to just have a high school diploma.
He further gave the assurance that everyone found guilty will experience the full wrath of the law.
